And what a big names we gonna see.
This year we also paid for two “plus” concerts. First Alicia Keys and then Diana Krall.

Alicia Keys, 13th july 2008, Nile venue.
When we entered the venue we went straight to the left side to sit on the tribune. But as you might know Alicia plays piano and most of her numbers were on that piano which was behind a very big curtain. So we saw nothing. Then we decided to go to the center where we saw much more but it was too far away for my lens so I used my friends Lumix.
But a very great performance nonetheless. 

Time for another “plus” concert. Diana Krall Also very good, her voice together with her piano…smooth!! She played songs from Nat King Cole and one great song from Joni Mitchel called Case Of You. They scared us if we tried to take pictures so I have sneeked this one (very bad). 

Youssou N’Dour 13th jyly 2008, Nile venue
A lot of African energy on that stage. 

The Mars Volta 13th Jyly 2008, Maas venue.
I REALLY NEEDED EARPLUGS HERE. They played their psycedellic rock..or whatever SO loud. 
YEAH Marc Ronsson Very good. the horn section together with the strings. All guest appearances. And he finished with “Valerie” not by Amy this time ofcourse. 
This is what the Nile venue looks like at the end of the North Sea Jazz festival. It was a great experience again.

Ahoy hadn’t opened his doors yet. But it was a nice day and there was an outdoor concert at the Harlem venue so it wasn’t that hard to wait.

Then we walked to the Maas venue were Victor Wooten would perform.

He can play bass !!!!!!!!

After his perfomance we bought Victor Wooten’s new album and had it signed. 

Miss CHAKA KHAN. What can I say. She played a lot of her old songs but also a few from het new album. Very funky. OW!

To catch our breath from Chaka we went to a small sereen outdoor place to take sips from our Carparina’s and discussed the performance.

Than we took a rest and desided what to do next while eating a fried fish watching “Metro Special Edition” at the indoor square.

We went to the Congo venue to see Marc Broussard, only the organization should have put him in a much bigger venue. There were as much people inside as there were outside. And we were watching it from the outside, so no picture of this one. :-( You here a “black” voice when you close your eyes but he is a white dude. His voice and music sounds a bit like Al Green and Otis Redding. So very good. 

 

We stayed at this venue because we surely want to be as close as possible to the next performance

Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings. This is very good Oldskool soul. And Sharon herself is a crazy woman. At the end my back and feet were killing me.

The line-up this year is amazing. It is very hard to choose where to go. Here is an impression of the first day (11th of July).

ZUCO 103 !!! PARTY !!! 
Even when her dress fell apart 
Alain Clark was a big surprise. VERY GOOD !!! 
It was a bit boring to see a old man there with some old singers. I had hoped for more swing 
This is Fink. Nice voice. And don’t use your (semi) professional camera in this venue (Yukon) if you don’t have a press card. It will be noticed !! 
It was a hard choice to make. Will we go to Angie Stone or Jill Scott. Because we saw Angie recently in Heineken Music Hall we decided to go to Jill. Boy what a voice. She is so good!! A mixture of R&B, Soul, Rock and Jazz. Unfortunaltey we had to leave already after half an hour because we wouldn’t miss BOOTSY !!!!. But we should have stayed here….. :-( 
This should have been the GRAND FINAL of the evening. I know it was a tribute to James Brown. But did we really need to see all those other unknown artists? And when he decided to do something about the funk he just walked into the audience and we had to shout with hem “Say it loud, we Love James Brown” or something like that.
